Description
The NRW Sports Foundation Scholarship supports athletically ambitious participants from Olympic, Paralympic, Deaflympic, and World Games disciplines who also demonstrate outstanding academic or vocational training achievements in North Rhine-Westphalia. Over a period of twelve months, a monthly grant of €350 is awarded to create financial freedom for studies or training alongside peak performance in competitive sports. In addition to talent promotion, the scholarship recipients gain access to a career community with connections to funding partners from business and society, facilitating entry into the labor market and providing valuable practical experience. The funding amount can replace a part-time job, thereby allowing greater focus on athletic and academic demands.
Application requires proof of excellent sporting and educational achievements as well as affiliation with a NRW club, a federal training center, or residence in NRW. Scholarships are awarded twice a year: applications must be submitted via the central DokuMe portal by January 31 for the summer semester and by July 31 for the winter semester. Up to 100 talented athletes are supported, whose funding recommendations are presented to the board by a panel of reviewers. The program aims to sustainably support the transition into professional life and to alleviate the dual burden of competitive sports and education through a strong network and funding structure.
