Description

The funding program supports the full coverage of membership fees for the Austria Center Wolf, Bear, Lynx, organized as an association in the Burgenland region. As a central coordination and specialist office, the center consolidates expertise from the federal government, nine federal states, scientific institutions, and various interest groups. The goal is the professionally grounded support of the management of large predators (wolf, bear, lynx, and golden jackal) in Austria. Within this framework, recommendations on livestock protection measures, compensation procedures, and monitoring systems are developed, projects are initiated, public relations work is carried out, and dialogue among all stakeholders is promoted. The measure contributes in the long term to increasing energy efficiency and climate protection by developing sustainable solution strategies for dealing with large predators and supporting their practical implementation.

Eligible for funding are exclusively public institutions, specifically the federal government (represented by the responsible federal ministry) and the nine federal states as full members with voting rights. A prerequisite for the grant is regular membership according to the association’s statutes and active participation in the management of large predators in accordance with the association’s purpose. The funding is provided as a non-repayable grant covering 100% of the incurred membership fees and has been available indefinitely since 01.01.2020. Through continuous funding, synergy effects between administration, research, and practice are strengthened, and nationwide coordination in environmental and nature conservation issues is sustainably secured.
