Philipp Otto Runge Fellowship

The Philipp Otto Runge Fellowship at the Hamburger Kunsthalle offers young artists from Hamburg and the surrounding area a continuously available scholarship program. Private individuals in the fields of science, research & innovation, as well as culture & media, are supported in initiating artistic production processes and realizing their own series of works. The goal is to conceive new works in close coordination with the exhibition planning of the Hamburger Kunsthalle and to present them in an international context. Through the sponsorship of the foundation, synergies arise between institutional exhibition structures and individual working methods.

Interested artists as well as cultural institutions affiliated with the Kunsthalle can apply at any time, as there are no fixed deadlines. The selection of fellows is made based on the curators’ recommendations, with primary consideration given to the artistic quality and the synergies with exhibition planning. The fellowship supports both the conceptual and material implementation of innovative projects and enables fellows to showcase their work to a broad international audience. There is no maximum duration for the funding, allowing creative developments to be accompanied individually.
