Description

The Plattdüütsch Film Prize 2025/26 invites creative children, adolescents, and independent filmmakers to submit Low German short films up to five minutes in length. Awards will be given to productions from age six upwards as well as to independent teams up to 25 years old, covering a broad spectrum of cinematic expressions including feature films, documentaries, animated films, video podcasts, or explanatory videos. The aim is to make the Low German language visible in the media world and to open access to Low German for young people. Video files (mpg2, mp4, avi, mov, wmv) are to be submitted by post or data transfer, along with information on title, length, names of participants or the film team, address, telephone, email, and, if applicable, the school or institution. The jury evaluates acting and linguistic performance, use of cinematic techniques, and screenplay. The submission deadline is May 21, 2026. A total of cash prizes worth €1,800 will be awarded across four age groups.

The Plattdüütsch Foundation Neddersassen promotes the creative potential of young filmmakers in Lower Saxony with this statewide competition and strengthens cultural diversity through high-quality regional film contributions. Educational institutions and private individuals alike have the opportunity to submit projects that establish an authentic connection to the Low German language and region. The award aims to create a motivating platform that equally honors film clubs, hobby teams, and individual projects. All awarded films contribute to presenting Low German in new formats and sustainably embedding it in the awareness of children and adolescents.
