Description
The PATH Foundation provides well-characterized fresh tissue and serum from breast cancer patients nationwide for research purposes, aiming to strengthen cancer research, particularly breast cancer research. Interested educational institutions and companies from academic groups as well as the pharmaceutical and industrial sectors can continuously request samples from the PATH biobank. The basis for this is the published Terms & Conditions, which describe uniform SOPs for tissue collection, processing, and storage at minus 150 °C, as well as centralized quality control. The portfolio includes tumor and normal tissue samples with an edge length of at least 3 mm, as well as serum aliquots of 1 ml. The material is complemented by pseudonymized datasets on clinical parameters, histopathology, molecular subtypes, and follow-up information to create a comprehensive analysis basis.
For the application, submission of a scientific exposé with a clearly formulated hypothesis and biometric-statistical considerations regarding the sample size is required. Additionally, the applicant’s CV and publication list, a detailed cost estimate for the expense allowance, as well as explanations of sample processing and analysis must be provided. The review is conducted by the scientific advisory board and external experts based on the criteria of scientific quality, appropriateness of material requirements, and completeness of the documents. Applications can be submitted at any time, offering researchers the opportunity to achieve groundbreaking insights in the fight against breast cancer through PATH.
