Description

The funding is aimed at media owners operating throughout Austria of daily and weekly newspapers, online media, and magazines, as well as non-profit and public organizations focusing on part-time vocational training and further education for journalistic staff. Both advanced training measures for established journalists and training programs for aspiring journalists are supported. With a grant of up to 50% of the documented costs – a maximum of €50,000 per medium per year – personnel expenses as well as participation and course fees are subsidized. Through continuous funding until 30.06.2029 and the annual application deadline on 31.03., a sustainable strengthening of editorial diversity and quality in Austria is ensured.

Prerequisites include a non-profit orientation, relevance for Austrian media companies, and for large training institutions at least two full-time employees and 1,200 training days per year. Small institutions must primarily focus on talent development. For the application, current personnel cost evidence, course programs, as well as invoices and participation certificates must be submitted electronically. After a positive funding approval, payment is made via the eRTR portal in two installments by August and November. Compliance with journalistic principles, representation of editorial diversity, and timely accounting ensure proof of use and form the basis for continuous quality improvement in Austrian journalism.
