Description
The Roland R. Wauer Award of the German Foundation for Sick Newborns honors the commitment of students in human medicine and annually supports two of them with a one-month clinical stay at a neonatology facility in Europe. With a financial grant of €1,500 for travel and accommodation expenses, the award promotes professional exchange and practice-oriented further education in the field of neonatology. The focus is on both clinical care quality and involvement in current research projects. The scholarship recipients have the opportunity to define their individual learning objectives in dialogue with local mentors and to document them in a virtual diary or blog. In this way, curiosity, scientific responsibility, and innovative ideas are sustainably strengthened in the spirit of Professor Dr. med. Roland R. Wauer, who was regarded as a passionate neonatologist and supporter of medical young talent.
The call for applications is aimed at enrolled human medicine students at European universities who are interested in an internship at a neonatology clinic. Applications must include: a one-page letter of motivation, a brief outline of the planned dissemination of the acquired experience, a letter of recommendation from teaching staff (if available), and a curriculum vitae. Evaluation criteria include creativity in the letter of motivation, quality of the dissemination plan, and academic background in human medicine. The application deadline is February 13, 2026. Interested parties can obtain detailed information on the application procedure from the German Foundation for Sick Newborns.
