Description
The repayable deposit contribution from the City of Graz supports low-income tenants throughout the city area with a subsidy of up to 1,000 euros. As an income-dependent subsidy, the City of Graz covers 50% of the agreed gross deposit for apartments on the private rental market. The measure aims to reduce financial barriers when moving in and to provide secure housing for individuals with low household income. Applications can be submitted continuously and without time limitation, allowing for a quick response to housing offers. The benefit is provided voluntarily according to the city council's guidelines; there is no legal entitlement.
Eligibility applies to private individuals residing or working in Graz aged 18 or older, or legally competent minor parents, whose net household income does not exceed the specified limits (e.g., a maximum of 40,800 euros for single persons). Further requirements include Austrian citizenship, EU/EWR/Swiss status, or EU permanent residence, as well as a five-year uninterrupted or a total of 15 years’ residence or employment in Graz. The application must include, among other documents, a recent photo, proof of citizenship, registration certificate, income statements of all household members, rental contract or rental offer, and, if applicable, divorce decree or pregnancy confirmation. Upon positive approval, the payment is made within three weeks directly to the account specified by the landlord. The granted contribution must be repaid within four weeks after the end of the tenancy before a new subsidy can be granted.
