Description

The EU funding initiative “Safeguarding & transmission of intangible cultural heritage” targets educational institutions, non-profit organizations, public bodies, and companies in all EU Member States as well as associated countries. The aim of this call, endowed with up to €3,000,000 under Horizon Europe, is the research and development of novel strategies for the protection and transmission of intangible cultural heritage in accordance with the 2003 UNESCO Convention. Funded are transnational research projects with a duration of up to 36 months that combine inter- and transdisciplinary approaches (e.g., ethnology, media and environmental sciences) and test both digital and participatory methods. A minimum participation of three independent legal entities from different EU or associated countries, as well as a multi-stage selection procedure for R&D contracts and an open science and dissemination plan, are mandatory. Personnel, travel, and material costs as well as subcontracting services are 100% eligible, whereas costs for real estate, retrospective expenses, and debt repayment are excluded.

Evaluation is based on the criteria of innovation content, contribution to social and cultural impact, as well as methodology and feasibility. Researchers, cultural institutions, and communities interested in intergenerational dialogue, biodiversity linkages, or policy recommendations will find a tailored funding instrument here. Submissions are only possible via the EU Funding & Tenders Portal until 23.09.2027, supplemented by CVs of the lead researchers, a project summary, and a financing plan. The call promotes the expansion of European networks, stimulates innovative cultural heritage policies, and enables communities to sustainably preserve and transmit their living heritage.
