Description
The Salzburg Small Hydropower Consultant program is aimed at operators of small hydropower plants (<10 MW) in the state of Salzburg. The goal is to sustainably increase electricity generation through modernization, revitalization, and technical optimization. For this purpose, a one-time, subsidized consulting service is offered in a two-stage model: In stage 1, a preliminary analysis is conducted by the Water Department, and if an efficiency potential of over 15% is positively assessed, a voucher for detailed hydropower consulting is issued. In stage 2, external experts analyze the technical, hydrological, and ecological conditions on site and prepare a final report with recommendations for action. For pico power plants (up to approx. 30 kW), the Renewable Energy Association Salzburg assumes the complete consulting service.
The funding is provided through a grant of up to 1,000 euros per consulting service and covers 67% to 100% of eligible expenses. A personal contribution of up to 500 euros (or 200 euros for pico plants), or at least one-third of the consulting costs, must be made. Requirements, in addition to the location in Salzburg and proof of operating rights, include the submission of a fully completed application form before the start of the consultation. The processing is handled by the General Water Management Department of the Office of the Salzburg State Government; applications can be submitted continuously. This offer provides practical support to sustainably increase the efficiency of small hydropower plants while simultaneously contributing to climate and environmental protection.
