Description
The German Coastal Protection Foundation awards outstanding theses in coastal and flood protection with the Foundation Prize / sdk Sponsorship Award. A total prize money of €6,000 is granted in three categories – dissertations, master's theses, as well as bachelor's and project theses. Recognized are scientific contributions that illuminate fundamental processes of coastal-forming phenomena, innovative technologies for erosion control, or technological and nature-based approaches in flood protection. The award targets young scientists and engineers from universities, practice, and administration nationwide who contribute with innovative research results to the preservation of endangered coastal zones. By granting this sponsorship award, the foundation specifically supports early-career researchers in the fields of research & innovation, environmental and nature conservation, as well as climate protection and energy efficiency.
Eligible applicants are private individuals whose thesis was completed after January 1, 2024, and has not yet received an award. Evaluation criteria include the excellence of the work and its relevance to coastal and flood protection. Applications must include the complete thesis and a curriculum vitae in electronic form as a PDF. The submission deadline is April 1, 2026. Decisions are made by an independent jury; legal recourse is excluded. The Foundation Prize / sdk Sponsorship Award not only creates a financial incentive but also fosters a network of dedicated professionals that promotes the exchange and further development of innovative coastal protection strategies.
