Scholarships

The Austrian Academy of Sciences awards scholarships through its continuous funding program for outstanding research achievements both domestically and abroad. The offer is equally aimed at early-career researchers as well as established scholars in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. Based on a competitive selection process, different program lines are provided depending on the qualification level and field of study. Awards are granted in sessions of allocation committees; applications can be submitted at any time and are not bound to any deadline. With an annual budget of approximately 10 million euros, the program supports basic research and facilitates extended stays at national and international research institutions.

The focus of the funding is on the further development of scientific excellence as well as the expansion of international research networks. The scholarships are granted as non-repayable grants and typically cover travel expenses, living costs, and project-related expenditures. Applicants must submit a competitive project outline that complies with the requirements of the respective call. Through close supervision and evaluation by the allocation committees, transparent and fair distribution of funds is ensured. The Academy thus creates attractive conditions for long-term research planning in Vienna and beyond national borders, aiming to promote young talents and support experienced researchers in innovative endeavors.
