Description
The EU initiative “Student and Family Engagement for Developing a Culture of Democratic/Civic Participation” targets educational institutions, public bodies, and non-profit organizations from all EU Member States and Horizon Europe associated countries. Over three funding years (up to 36 months), up to €4 million (100% funding rate) will be provided to explore and promote innovative mechanisms through which schools, students, and families can jointly develop a democratic culture. The objective is to produce evidence-based recommendations, tools, and models that sustainably strengthen participation in the education sector. Thematically, contributions are sought on social cohesion, democracy, education, research & innovation, as well as child and youth development. The research should, for example, examine schools as places of intergenerational dialogue, analyze student participation through student councils, and illuminate the role of socio-emotional learning in political education. A particular focus lies on the active involvement of parents and guardians from diverse sociocultural backgrounds.
Cooperative projects with at least three independent partners from different countries are eligible for funding. The application procedure requires a complete application form (Part A & B), a detailed financial plan, and CVs of key personnel. Eligible costs include personnel expenses, material and travel costs, subcontractor services, as well as dissemination and communication activities; ineligible are real estate acquisitions, retrospective costs, and debt settlement. Evaluation will be based on the degree of innovation, credibility of expected results, and quality of implementation. Project start is possible from October 1, 2027, and applications can be submitted until September 23, 2027. Interested stakeholders from schools, families, research, and policy have the opportunity through this program to develop and disseminate forward-looking concepts to strengthen democratic participation across Europe.
