Description

The six-day study trip organized by the Kurt and Herma Römer Foundation will take place from April 18 to 23, 2026, to Krakow and Oświęcim, offering participants aged 18 and over the opportunity to deepen their understanding of remembrance culture and political education within the historical context of the Holocaust. Through guided excursions to the former Jewish district of Kazimierz, the memorial sites of the Krakow Ghetto and the Plaszów concentration camp, as well as the extermination site Auschwitz II Birkenau, participants gain profound insights into the industrialization of mass murder and the individual realities of life before 1940. Accompanied by experienced experts and supported by preparatory materials, including the latest work on the post-history of Auschwitz, participants reflect on-site on the National Socialist crimes and their impact on collective memory.

The program is organized as a grant scheme for individuals, students, unemployed persons, or social pensioners who wish to engage with history in a self-reflective manner. The participation fee of €884 from Berlin Central Station includes train travel, accommodation in double rooms, meals, guided tours, and educational materials (single room supplement + €150). A reduced fee of €770 applies to students, unemployed persons, and social pensioners boarding in Berlin. Binding registration and payment of the fee are required by March 5, 2026, or March 20, 2026, respectively. The study trip offers intensive encounters, expert guidance, and space for personal reflection – a unique opportunity to actively shape remembrance culture and sustainably preserve the legacy of the victims.
