Grant criteria
Funding objective
Support for location-strengthening companies in transferring successful research results into the first industrial production through the establishment and upgrading of pilot and demonstration plants as well as First Industrial Deployment. Focus on the modernization and diversification of production and process methods with positive climate, environmental, and digitalization effects to strengthen competitiveness and achieve the objectives of the EU Green Deal.
Eligible expenses

- Special tools and fixtures
- Personnel costs
Non-eligible expenses
- Projects that started before the application was submitted
- Projects without positive climate and environmental effects
- Projects without added value in the field of digitalization

Description
The Transformation Offensive – TWIN Transition is a nationwide grant program available throughout Austria that continuously accepts applications from November 2023 until June 2026. It targets technology-developing leading companies and SMEs from all sectors (except agriculture and fisheries) with headquarters and operations in Austria, particularly from the automotive, semiconductor industry, and life sciences sectors. Funding is provided for pilot and demonstration plants as well as "First Industrial Deployment" projects with a minimum volume of EUR 4 million and a duration of up to 36 months. The funding rate ranges between 15% and 35% of eligible costs, depending on the company size. Eligible expenses include, among others, investments in machinery, prototypes and demonstration plants, construction investments, IT solutions, special tools, and personnel costs.
The goal is the rapid transfer of successful research results into industrial production to modernize and diversify production and process methods with positive climate, environmental, and digitalization impacts. Thus, the program contributes to the EU Green Deal objectives and strengthens the competitiveness of Austria as a business location. Projects are evaluated based on innovation and technological competence, employment effects, ecological sustainability, transformation speed, and macroeconomic impact. Projects that have commenced prior to application submission or do not demonstrate verifiable climate, environmental, or digitalization added value are not funded. AWS relies on a digital submission system as well as a risk-based control and reporting system, including interim and final accounting, to support the process.
