Description

The transport cost subsidy from the State of Salzburg supports mountain farming operations in delivering milk for initial processing in Salzburg. Private individuals as well as companies with a farmstead in the state of Salzburg can apply for funding in the form of a de minimis aid. The objective of the measure is to improve market access in remote areas with disadvantages in external transport conditions, partially compensate for additional economic expenses, and ensure comprehensive land use in the mountain regions. Funding is provided for individual and collective feeders, carriers, and cable cars that transport milk from mountain farms to a processing or treatment facility located in the state of Salzburg. Annual applications can be submitted until December 10th and are processed through the Department of Livelihoods and Energy of the Salzburg State Government.

The calculation of the funding amount is based on a funding area map that identifies routes with at least 100 difficulty points and excludes travel on federal and state roads. A subsidy of €1.40 per kilometer traveled is granted; for cable cars, an annual flat rate is available. In exceptional cases with particularly high additional expenses, a surcharge of up to 50% per kilometer may be approved. Seasonal feeder costs for alpine milk are excluded. As proof, an annual report from the milk processing or treatment facilities including name, address, annual kilometers, and received funding amount must be submitted. Payments are made annually subject to the availability of funds; compliance with the current de minimis ceiling of €200,000 within three fiscal years is mandatory. The guideline has been continuously in effect since October 21, 2013, ensuring reliable support for the milk and cattle industry in the Salzburg mountain region.
