Description
The environmental funding program "Renovation Bonus 2026" supports thermal renovations of existing buildings throughout Austria that are older than 15 years at the time of application. Private owners of single-family and two-family houses, terraced houses, as well as entities responsible for multi-story residential buildings, can apply for a non-repayable grant amounting to 40% of eligible expenses for insulation measures on exterior walls, roofs, and ceilings, as well as for the replacement of windows and exterior doors. Eligible costs include materials, planning, and installation, while new constructions, extensions, and demolition/reconstruction projects are excluded. A prerequisite for application submission is registration with an energy consulting protocol and compliance with the cutoff date of October 3, 2025, for the start of services. Invoices must be issued to and paid by the applicant. For comprehensive individual component or partial renovations, the implementation deadline is September 30, 2028 (single-family/terraced houses) or September 30, 2029 (multi-story residential buildings).
This measure provides a strong impetus for energy efficiency and climate protection in residential construction: by reducing heat loss, greenhouse gas emissions and heating costs decrease simultaneously. Registrations and applications can be submitted until December 31, 2026, as long as budget funds are available. The funding is linked to the Environmental Funding Act and the Investment Promotion Guidelines and contributes to achieving national climate neutrality by 2040. The Renovation Bonus 2026 combines sustainable construction investments with macroeconomic efficiency and makes a tangible contribution to resource conservation – a compelling offer for forward-looking modernizations in the private residential stock.
