Description
The funding program "Environmental Promotion – Urban Water Management" aims at the comprehensive protection of the environment in Vienna through orderly wastewater disposal and reliable water supply. Eligible for funding are municipal enterprises, municipalities, associations, cooperatives, as well as private and legal entities that construct individual facilities or connection lines longer than 100 m to public water or sewer networks. The focus is on the sustainable safeguarding of the water resource as well as the strengthening of infrastructure and climate protection. Evaluation is based on ecological compatibility, economic efficiency, state of the art, and urgency of the measures. The project duration is set at 36 months, and applications can be submitted until 31.12.2028.
Funding rates between 10% and 40% of eligible investment costs relieve applicants and enable investments in wastewater and water supply facilities, reinvestments in existing urban water management infrastructure, planning and construction supervision services, digital pipeline information systems, as well as measures for local stormwater management. Requirements include submission prior to construction start, a valid water rights permit, cost and performance accounting including operational accounting sheet, a reinvestment plan, minimum fees of €1/m³ for drinking water and €2/m³ for wastewater, and, if applicable, approval for cost overruns exceeding 15%. Required documents comprise the application and data collection form, technical report, site plan, facility components catalog, and export data from the digital pipeline information system. This funding strengthens investments in climate and water protection and establishes future-proof supply systems in Vienna.
