Validation of the Technological and Societal Innovation Potential of Scientific Research – VIP+

Validation of the Technological and Societal Innovation Potential of Scientific Research – VIP+ is a nationwide funding program of the Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR), primarily targeting public and scientific institutions. It aims to systematically demonstrate the innovation potential and applicability of research results. To this end, VIP+ offers financial support in the form of grants for a duration of up to 36 months with funding amounts of up to €500,000 per project and year (up to €1.5 million in total). Eligible applicants include universities, non-university research institutions primarily funded by the federal and state governments, as well as federal institutions with R&D tasks. Prerequisites for application include, among others, a binding support concept, the involvement of innovation mentors confirmed in writing, and, in the case of collaborative projects, a cooperation agreement.

The focus is on feasibility demonstrations, pilot applications, and test series through which researchers advance their results from the validation phase to market readiness or societal application. The continuous submission option provides project-related flexibility and accelerates the transfer of findings into practice. VDI/VDE Innovation + Technology GmbH acts as the project management agency throughout the entire application and implementation process, offering professional advice and management support. VIP+ reduces the risk for further development and creates a clear bridge between science and industry or society to promote sustainable innovations.
