Description
The fourth and fifth expansion phases of the Vienna U-Bahn are being realized through equal co-financing by the federal government and the state of Vienna, with each party assuming approximately €2,870.5 million (50% of the total costs amounting to €5,741 million). The measure covers the U2/U5 line intersection, including the extension of the U2 to Wienerberg and the U5 to Hernals, within the period up to 2033/2035. This agreement pursuant to Art. 15a B-VG (Federal Law Gazette I No. 199/2022) includes all project phases from planning and land acquisition through construction to technical commissioning as well as the procurement of vehicles. The objective is to secure the infrastructure in the long term, strengthen the environmentally friendly rail transport mode, and promote sustainable mobility in Vienna. Federal funds are disbursed to the state of Vienna in annual installments. The funding has been valid indefinitely since 01.01.2022 and allows for applications at any time.
The state of Vienna, as a contracting party and public institution, is eligible for funding. A prerequisite for a grant is the existence of an agreement pursuant to Art. 15a B-VG as well as a project within the framework of the fourth and fifth expansion phases of the Vienna U-Bahn. The funding rate is 50%, while eligible expenses include all costs for planning, land acquisition, construction work, commissioning, and vehicle procurement. Applications can be submitted at any time, ensuring flexible and timely implementation of the U-Bahn expansion.
