Description
Making a Living from Art is a one-week summer academy in Hamburg, taking place from June 29 to July 4, 2026, which imparts fundamental knowledge about the art market to young artists. In interactive workshops and discussion rounds, graduates of artistic degree programs or individuals with comparable intensive artistic practice gain insights into current market structures, professionalization strategies, and the role of their own stance as professional artists. The aim of the academy is to develop an individual marketing strategy that, alongside the artistic work, also considers aspects such as a professional external appearance, communication channels, and networking.
Experienced gallery owners, art consultants, and representatives from foundations and the media share best practices from globalization, digitalization, and social media. A concluding individual coaching session supports participants in concretizing and practically implementing personal marketing approaches. The support is provided in kind in the form of advice, further training, and professional exchange at the Gut Siggen seminar center and is exclusively aimed at individuals. Applications must include: a CV with educational background and exhibition records, an artistic statement, documentation of previous work (PDF, max. 20 pages/20 images, up to 15 MB), a link to the applicant’s own website (if available), as well as a short video (max. 3 minutes) for personal introduction. This summer academy offers emerging artists a unique opportunity to thoroughly prepare for the step into the professional art world and to sustainably position themselves in the market.
