Description
The Joachim Christian Römer Foundation supports projects and initiatives nationwide in the engineering sciences with a special focus on mechanical engineering and related disciplines such as fluid technology. Funding is provided for doctoral and postdoctoral projects, habilitations, as well as the staffing of researcher positions. The expansion of technical infrastructure at universities and universities of applied sciences is also part of the funding portfolio. Eligible to apply are private individuals, educational institutions, and public sponsors pursuing practice-oriented research projects that contribute to the innovative advancement of engineering. Purely fundamental research projects are excluded from funding; applicants must also fulfill the foundation’s purpose and demonstrate a clear application relevance.
Project-related personnel and material costs, the acquisition and expansion of technical infrastructure, and the financing of researcher positions are funded. Decisive factors are the practical benefit of the project, the depth of technical innovation, and the relevance to the foundation’s objectives. Applications can be submitted at any time and require the following documents: Abstract (max. 2,500 characters), an academic CV, complete publication list, certificates of previous university employment, an informal summary of prior research and teaching activities, a detailed project outline with time and resource planning, as well as two letters of recommendation. After an optional preliminary review based on the abstract, the foundation’s board decides on a formal application recommendation. With this information, interested parties are offered a practice-oriented funding instrument to advance pioneering technical developments.
