Description
The WissKomm College is a modular annual program of the Alfred Toepfer Foundation F.V.S. in Hamburg, specifically targeting young scientists, university and research communicators, as well as science journalists with initial professional experience. Over twelve months, 16 to 18 participants gain access to a shared space for learning and reflection, focusing on orientation and role clarification, professionalization, and networking. Current methods of science communication are conveyed through four modules: from digital impulse events to in-person workshops at Gut Siggen, as well as collegial peer consultation sessions. Experienced trainers and distinguished experts from science, journalism, and politics provide valuable input, while a project funding pool supports coaching, mentoring, and conference participation.
The funding is provided as a non-material grant and requires the submission of a completed application form, a CV, a motivation letter with a short essay, and optionally work samples. Evaluation criteria include expertise in science communication, qualifications and academic degree, professional positioning, commitment to deadlines, as well as diversity and inclusion. Applications for the third cohort are possible between December 1, 2025, and January 28, 2026, with the program starting from May 6, 2026. The WissKomm College opens a sustainable space for exchange and the professionalization of future drivers of science communication.
