Department 3 of the Office of the Carinthian State Government is part of the indirect state administration and is responsible for municipalities as well as disaster control in Carinthia. Within the sub-department for Fire Services, Disaster Control, and Civil Service, it ensures the safety of the Carinthian population through the enforcement of relevant state laws, the coordination of emergency organizations (fire brigade, federal army, police, rescue services), and the provision of financial and organizational resources in the event of damage.

Department 3 – Municipalities and Disaster Protection aims to strengthen the operational capability of municipalities in the event of hazards and disasters, to ensure coordinated crisis management processes in the state of Carinthia, and to protect the population as effectively as possible through timely warnings, preventive measures, and wage continuation subsidies for emergency personnel.

The services and funding of Department 3 are aimed at municipalities, local authorities, and their emergency organizations (in particular fire departments, disaster control units, and civil service units), as well as private and public institutions involved in large-scale damage events or mountain rescue operations. Additionally, the Carinthian population and affected employers benefit from preventive measures and financial compensation payments.
