The Directorate of Internal Affairs and Municipal Matters is one of the ten specialized departments within the Office of the Upper Austrian State Government. It is responsible for central tasks related to municipal administration and internal administrative matters. Its duties include supporting, advising, and supervising the 438 municipalities in Upper Austria, as well as further developing internal administrative processes. As part of the Upper Austrian state administration, the Directorate serves the citizens and ensures effective, citizen-oriented administration.

The Directorate of Internal Affairs and Municipalities is committed to strengthening municipal self-governance in Upper Austria and ensuring an efficient state administration. It promotes cooperation, transparency, and service orientation to sustainably improve the quality of life for people on site.

The target group primarily includes the municipalities and municipal associations in Upper Austria as well as their citizens. Furthermore, their services are aimed at municipal decision-makers, administrative personnel, and all public institutions that coordinate or require internal administrative tasks and municipal affairs.
