About the funder

The Department of Nature Conservation within the Office of the Upper Austrian State Government is responsible for nature and landscape protection in Upper Austria. It oversees the implementation of the Upper Austrian Nature and Landscape Protection Act 2001, manages approximately 100,000 hectares of protected areas (including national parks, landscape and nature reserves, Natura 2000 sites), promotes nature conservation projects, and supports municipalities in the development of ecologically valuable land and water areas. Its duties also include coordinating the Upper Austrian Nature Watch, producing biotope and landscape mappings (GENISYS), and awarding funding for the creation and maintenance of habitats for endangered species.
