The An Deiner Seite – Gerhard and Gertrud Schmieder Foundation is a non-profit, private foundation under civil law, established in 2022 by Petra Schmieder-Runschke in memory of her parents. It supports families and close persons of individuals who are permanently dependent on assistance due to illness or disability. Through targeted measures, the foundation simplifies their living conditions and improves the prospects for those affected and their caregivers. Additionally, it raises awareness among the public, media, society, politics, and relevant institutions about the burdens faced by caregiving relatives and advocates for greater recognition and appreciation of their efforts.

Our mission is to support caregiving relatives in challenging life situations by standing by their side with practical assistance and network offerings, rather than leaving them alone. We promote projects and initiatives that ease the daily lives of young and adult caregivers and advocate for the political and social recognition of their needs and contributions.

Our funding programs are aimed at families and close caregivers of people with long-term care or support needs. A special focus is on young carers who assume responsibility for ill or disabled family members already during adolescence. We support individuals and groups with information, exchange, and networking opportunities to alleviate their situation and improve their future prospects.
