About the funder

The Björn Steiger Foundation is a private foundation based in Winnenden (Baden-Württemberg). It was established in 1969 by Ute and Siegfried Steiger following the accidental death of their son Björn and has since played a significant role in shaping the German emergency medical services. The foundation advocates for modern emergency care, trains laypersons in first aid and resuscitation, and develops technical as well as political solutions for emergency services. Well-known programs include: Herzsicher (layperson resuscitation and AED training), Baby Emergency Ambulance, Ritter Björn (kindergarten program), MEDIMALS, and Rescue Bee Hive.

Mission & Vision

Saving lives together – since 1969. The Björn Steiger Foundation sees itself as an initiator, bridge-builder, and system critic where existing structures are insufficient. Its goal is to save lives through modern emergency aid, education, and political initiative, and to sustainably improve emergency services in Germany.

Target groups

Private individuals, pupils and students, kindergarten children, teachers, associations and companies, as well as emergency personnel (emergency medical services, fire brigade, police). Geographical focus: Germany. Basic requirement: interest in emergency preparedness, first aid, or commitment to improved emergency services.
