About the funder
The BürgerStiftung Hamburg was founded in 1999 as a community foundation by Hamburg residents for their city. With an initial endowment of €51,129, it has steadily expanded its scope and currently manages an endowment of €66,696,973 (as of 31.12.2022). It maintains 13 own foundation funds and 14 fiduciary foundations. In 2022, it generated €1,420,664 in donation income and distributed project funding totaling €4,914,535. The foundation has been awarded the Active Citizenship Promotion Prize in 2004 and 2010, and has repeatedly been recognized as a Top-Ten Community Foundation (2013–2016, 2018, 2020, 2023). At the core of its work are long-term grants and charitable projects in the fields of education, social affairs, integration, and the environment. The BürgerStiftung supports volunteer initiatives such as "LeseZeit" and "Guter Rat vor Ort" and thrives on the financial and voluntary support of many Hamburg residents.

Mission & Vision
The BürgerStiftung Hamburg promotes civic engagement and strengthens social cohesion in Hamburg. Through financial contributions and voluntary involvement, it initiates and supports projects in the fields of education, social affairs, integration, and the environment. It aims to inspire people for the common good and to enable sustainable, local change.
Target groups
Non-profit initiatives and projects in Hamburg, as well as volunteers and donors, are supported. The focus is on children and families in socioeconomically disadvantaged districts, educationally underserved target groups, people with limited access to legal advice, and all Hamburg residents who wish to engage in social participation and environmental issues.
