The Bürgerstiftung Wetzlar is a legally capable foundation under civil law, established in March 2007 with an initial endowment of €99,700, which has since grown to over €430,000. It sees itself as an independent initiative by citizens for the citizens of the city of Wetzlar and its immediate surroundings. Its purpose is the promotion of education, upbringing, and science; youth and elderly assistance; culture, art, and monument preservation; environmental and nature conservation; traditional customs; sports; public health promotion; as well as international understanding and democratic governance through operational and supportive project work. Financial independence and continuity are ensured through the long-term growth of the foundation’s assets and the use of interest income, as well as through donations.

Mission & Vision
The Bürgerstiftung Wetzlar builds a bridge between donors and benefactors and the social, cultural, historical, and ecological needs of the city. It promotes civic engagement by providing citizens, institutions, and businesses with the opportunity to commit sustainably to the common good. Acting as a catalyst for civic engagement, the foundation operates voluntarily and competently in the interests of its benefactors.
