Section II – Sport in the Federal Ministry for Housing, Arts, Culture, Media and Sport is responsible for promoting the social, societal, and health policy functions of sport in Austria. It supports sports clubs, sports associations, and civil society organizations through financial and organizational frameworks and contributes to establishing Austria as a sporting nation. In this context, the federal government assumes funding responsibilities, while constitutional competencies lie with the federal states.

Sport inspires millions of people in Austria every day. The Sports Section is committed to creating the framework conditions that enable the integrative, health-promoting, and community-building potentials of sport to be realized. Our goal is to strengthen sports clubs, associations, and initiatives to ensure a diverse and sustainable sports offering throughout Austria.

The target group of Section II – Sport includes sports clubs, sports associations, initiatives, and organizations in Austria that implement sports and movement projects in the areas of recreational sports, youth and elite sports, as well as sports science and technology. Funding is provided to actors who aim to contribute to health, integration, equality, and social participation.
