Green Events Austria

Green Events Austria supports the sustainable organization of sporting events throughout Austria and promotes environmentally friendly mobility, material and waste management, as well as the use of resource-saving products. The program offers comprehensive advice and support to interested parties and stakeholders who wish to design their events in a socially responsible and ecologically optimized manner. Special emphasis is placed on pilot and focus projects to test innovative approaches in the field of environmental and climate protection. As a grant program, it targets non-profit associations and private individuals as well as companies or other organizations with headquarters or event locations in Austria. The thematic scope covers sports, climate protection, environmental/nature conservation, culture & media, as well as energy efficiency & climate protection, linking regional value creation with sustainable communication.

Applications have been accepted continuously since July 7, 2022, until the allocated budget is exhausted. Funding requirements include an active commitment to ecological and social sustainability in sporting events as well as the project’s anchoring in Austria. Through targeted pilot initiatives, forward-looking guidelines for Green Events are to be developed and permanently established. The Federal Ministry for Housing, Arts, Culture, Media and Sport provides the necessary resources to actively support organizers of all sizes in realizing environmentally friendly sporting events. Interested stakeholders are encouraged to submit innovative concepts and thus bring the vision of climate-friendly major events into practice.
