About the funder

The Dr. Heinrich Netheler Foundation was established in 1999 by the four granddaughters of Dr. Heinrich Netheler to continue the legacy of his humanitarian motto, “Improving the living conditions of humanity.” The non-profit foundation primarily supports research, education, and advanced training in the fields of biotechnology, molecular biology, biomedicine, and bionics. Its focus lies in the idealistic and financial support of other tax-privileged institutions, the awarding of prizes for outstanding scientific work, as well as scholarships and grants to support specific research and training projects.

Mission & Vision

"Progress is in our nature" – the Dr. Heinrich Netheler Foundation sees nature as a source of inspiration for environmentally compatible innovations. With a focus on bionics, it aims to strengthen the interface between biology and technology, enable young people to engage in sustainable, inquiry-based learning, and promote the importance of interdisciplinary STEM education.

Target groups

The foundation targets research institutions and universities in the fields of biotechnology, molecular biology, biomedicine, and bionics; early-career researchers (doctoral and postdoctoral candidates) in the medical-biological environment; schools and extracurricular learning centers (particularly children in grades 3 to 6) to promote interest in STEM subjects; as well as educators and independent course instructors offering continuing education in the field of bionics.
