About the funder
The Erika Simon Foundation was established on October 31, 1993, by Gerhard Simon, a flat glass manufacturer from Rinteln, with an endowment of 200,000 DM. The seat of the non-profit foundation is Görlitz. It is dedicated to the preservation of German cultural heritage in historic Silesia and the promotion of German-Polish cultural exchange. The focus of its activities includes monument protection (particularly architectural conservation and restorations), subsidies for publications on Silesian history, translations, conferences, exhibitions, and youth encounters. Since 2008, Waltraud Simon has chaired the board as the 1st Chairperson, which also includes Prof. Dr. Arno Herzig and Dr. Markus Bauer.

Mission & Vision
The Erika Simon Foundation is committed to preserving the German cultural heritage for German and Polish Silesians and thereby contributing to reconciliation between Germans and Poles for a peaceful shared future in Europe.
Target groups
Non-profit organizations, initiatives, and individuals in Germany and Poland are supported who implement projects for the preservation, care, and promotion of Silesian cultural heritage. This includes measures related to architectural monuments, restorations, publications, conferences, youth encounters, and cultural events with a character that fosters international understanding, contributing to intercultural dialogue and strengthening German-Polish relations.
