About the funder

The Ernst Schröder Foundation is a non-profit foundation of the horticultural profession, founded in 1963 by the Central Association of Horticulture (ZVG) and the German Hagel Insurance (today Gartenbau-Versicherung VVaG). Based in Bonn, it promotes young talent in horticulture as well as professional further education and training in horticulture. Its activities include awarding individual scholarships, supporting the Working Group of German Young Gardeners (AdJ) and the Horticultural Education Center Grünberg, as well as providing subsidies for teaching and learning materials. Furthermore, the foundation offers immediate assistance to gardeners in distress following disasters, promotes plant breeding, and supports research and publications on professional, social, cultural, economic, and technical developments in horticulture.

Mission & Vision

The Ernst Schröder Foundation aims to sustainably strengthen the quality and innovative capacity of the horticultural sector through targeted financial support of individuals and educational institutions in horticulture. It sees itself as a reliable partner for individual continuing education and training, talent development, as well as research and knowledge transfer in German horticulture.

Target groups

Priority is given to supporting trainees, skilled and managerial personnel, as well as educational institutions in horticulture in Germany. This includes individual young gardeners, organizations such as the Working Group of German Young Gardeners (AdJ), the Grünberg Horticultural Training Center, as well as research projects and publications that contribute to the advancement of the horticultural profession. Additionally, gardeners in distress following disasters receive assistance.
