FONTE Stiftung zur Förderung des geisteswissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses
About the funder
The FONTE Foundation was established in 2001 by Dieter Kroll and is dedicated to the targeted promotion of early-career researchers in the humanities in Germany. It particularly supports humanities and cultural studies research projects in the fields of General and Comparative Literature, German Studies, English Studies, Romance Studies, Comparative Literature, as well as Cultural and Gender Studies. Through numerous funding formats – including foundation guest professorships, publication cost subsidies for dissertations and habilitation theses, publication series on early modern women authors (Femmes de Lettres, Edition FONTE, FONTE Atelier), the Moderata Fonte Forum, conferences, scholarships, and research stays at the FONTE Foundation House – the foundation contributes to the expansion of the humanities research landscape. It is neither affiliated with any religious denomination nor bound by social or political party interests.

Mission & Vision
The FONTE Foundation sees itself as a source and springboard for young scholars in the humanities and cultural studies. Inspired by the late Renaissance author Moderata Fonte, it supports outstanding research projects, creates living and working spaces for early-career researchers, and contributes to strengthening cultural diversity in literature and research. Its goal is to provide space and visibility for emerging scholars in the humanities, thereby generating impetus for the societal significance of education and culture.
Target groups
The funding programs of the FONTE Foundation are aimed at early-career scholars and researchers with a completed university degree in the humanities (particularly literary studies, cultural studies, gender studies, and comparative literature). Support is provided for doctoral and habilitation theses, research projects, visiting professorships, conference formats, as well as publications in dedicated series that pursue innovative approaches and address research gaps in the fields of Early Modern Studies and Medieval Studies.
