The Forstamt Frauenwald is aimed at private and corporate forest owners within the Forstamt Frauenwald district: this includes the city of Ilmenau, seven other municipalities, three forest cooperatives, and one forest management association. The goal is to promote sustainable, ecologically and economically efficient forest management. Forest owners receive professional advice as well as financial support for measures to preserve the protective, utilitarian, and recreational functions of the forest and to promote habitats of significant conservation value.
