About the funder
The GELSENWASSER Foundation gGmbH was established in January 2016 by GELSENWASSER AG as a non-profit limited liability company. It consolidates the social commitment of GELSENWASSER AG and its subsidiaries in the North Rhine-Westphalia region. Its main focus is the promotion of youth welfare and education as well as arts and culture in the region. Furthermore, it supports projects in the fields of environment, science and research, infrastructure initiatives in developing countries, as well as other charitable and welfare-oriented projects.

Mission & Vision
With the foundation of the Stiftung, GELSENWASSER AG created an opportunity to assume social responsibility in the regions and municipalities where the company operates. We believe that education is the key to a fulfilled and successful life and opens up opportunities to realize one’s own wishes and ideas. Our foundation therefore particularly supports youth welfare and education in the region, as well as art and culture. Our guiding principle: We invest in people!
Target groups
The funding programs are aimed at kindergartens, schools, and other educational institutions in 77 municipalities within the operational area of GELSENWASSER AG. Additionally, the foundation supports cultural institutions (e.g., theaters, music and literature venues) as well as non-profit organizations involved in international water projects (e.g., SOS Children's Villages, Viva con Agua). Priority is given to projects that empower children and young people in transitional situations, foster artistic creativity, and secure the local cultural infrastructure.
