About the funder
The EWE Foundation was established in 2002 by EWE AG and is a legally recognized foundation under civil law based in Oldenburg, Lower Saxony. It is passionately committed to people in northwest Germany and parts of Brandenburg, supporting projects in the fields of cultural mediation, democracy and social skills, as well as STEM and environmental education. With the proceeds from the foundation’s capital, it supports initiatives that strengthen social cohesion, create opportunities for creative engagement, and address the issues of our time. The foundation’s governing bodies are the Executive Board and the Foundation Council, complemented since 2024 by a Future Advisory Board that brings fresh impulses and, from 2025 onwards, decides on funds for environmental and nature conservation projects.

Mission & Vision
The EWE Foundation is committed to promoting sustainable development in its region through initiatives in education, culture, democracy, and the environment. It provides people with a platform to take responsibility and shape a livable future with creativity, perseverance, and dedication. In doing so, it aligns itself with the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals and the principles of good foundation practice.
Target groups
The funding programs of the EWE Foundation are aimed at initiatives, organizations, and project sponsors in Northwest Germany and parts of Brandenburg – regardless of origin, gender, or age. Projects supported include those in the fields of cultural education, democracy and social skills, as well as STEM and environmental education, which pursue innovative approaches and make a sustainable contribution to social cohesion.
