The Institute for Maritime Economics and Logistics (ISL) was founded in 1954 in Bremen as a non-profit foundation under private law. Today, it is one of the leading research institutes in Europe in the field of maritime logistics and shipping economics. At its locations in Bremen and Bremerhaven, it develops practical solutions in interdisciplinary teams for public and private sector project partners and offers a wide range of services in research, consulting, and data analysis.

Mission & Vision
Our mission is to advance efficiency, sustainability, and digitalization in maritime logistics through innovative research, consulting, and knowledge transfer. We see ourselves as a central interface between science and practice and work on behalf of public and private partners to develop forward-looking solutions for the global maritime transport industry.
Target groups
The ISL targets public institutions, shipping companies, logistics firms, and other stakeholders in the maritime economy, as well as private individuals interested in scientific research and practice-oriented development in the fields of maritime economics and maritime logistics. As members of the support association, they specifically promote preliminary research, training projects, and the publication of research findings.
