Private foundation

About the funder

The Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart is a foundation under civil law, founded in 1981 by Helmuth Rilling, dedicated to the preservation, performance, and dissemination of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach as well as his historical and contemporary context. Under the artistic direction of Prof. Hans-Christoph Rademann, the institution combines the Baroque ensemble Gächinger Kantorei with a vibrant festival program (International Bach Festival Stuttgart), regular subscription concerts in Stuttgart and Ludwigsburg, as well as extensive educational formats for all age groups. The house and library at Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Platz serve as venues for concerts and rehearsals, a library, and a competence center for cultural education.

Mission & Vision

The Bach Academy promotes a vibrant engagement with Johann Sebastian Bach, his era, and his successors. Through historically informed performances, innovative festivals, and participatory educational projects, it aims to make music history tangible, connect generations, and strengthen cultural diversity. Its mission is to understand Bach as a unifying element and to inspire people through shared concert and educational formats.

Target groups

The Bach Academy addresses a broad audience: from children and young people to music students and professional musicians, as well as culturally interested laypersons. Its primary target groups include schools and educational institutions in the Stuttgart area (BachBewegt! programs), amateur and professional choirs, festival attendees, as well as national and international concert and cooperation partners. It equally supports artists, educational professionals, and sponsorship groups who carry forward Bach's cultural heritage.
