About the funder
The Joachim Herz Stiftung is a legally recognized foundation under civil law based in Hamburg. Since the 1980s, it has been promoting education, science, and research in the natural sciences, engineering, and economics. Its goal is to strengthen the transfer of knowledge from cutting-edge research to application, support innovations, and enable practical solutions for societal challenges such as climate protection, resource scarcity, and skilled labor shortages. Through interdisciplinary funding programs, scholarships, awards, and transatlantic dialogue, the foundation contributes to the future viability of society and the economy.

Mission & Vision
Our mission is to encourage the courage to start anew by specifically supporting innovation in research and education. We are committed to ensuring that excellent scientific findings are translated into practice and generate sustainable societal benefits. In doing so, we place great value on interdisciplinary collaboration, the strengthening of future skills, and transatlantic exchange between Germany and the USA.
Target groups
The funding programs of the Joachim Herz Stiftung are aimed at individual researchers, research groups, and universities in engineering, natural sciences, and economics, general education schools, educational initiatives, and extracurricular learning venues, as well as young scientists (doctoral candidates, postdocs) and emerging professionals in vocational education. Furthermore, the foundation supports organizers of interdisciplinary events in the natural sciences as well as trainees and junior professionals within the framework of transatlantic exchange programs.
