About the funder

The Youth Foundation of the Diocese of Essen was established in June 2001 at the initiative of the then Bishop Dr. Hubert Luthe and is responsibly committed to the education, training, and social development of young people in the Diocese of Essen. In close cooperation with the BDKJ Youth Foundation "helpful, noble & good," it promotes Catholic schools, youth education and youth welfare institutions, as well as parish initiatives on a long-term basis. Over 300 projects in the areas of school activities, youth work, recreation, and prevention programs have been supported in the past 20 years. The foundation is primarily funded through donations and legacies and invests in the personal, social, and religious development of children, adolescents, and young adults.

Mission & Vision

"Preserving the good – moving the new!" – The Youth Foundation of the Diocese of Essen sees itself as a reliable partner of Catholic youth education and youth welfare. Its goal is to strengthen Christian values, social cohesion, and lived faith in family, church, school, and society. To this end, it provides financial resources to enable creative and sustainable projects that empower young people to actively shape their living environment.

Target groups

Non-profit institutions, groups, and associations involved in Catholic youth education and youth welfare within the Diocese of Essen are supported. This includes youth associations, youth churches, parish projects, Catholic schools, as well as initiatives for career orientation or support for students with disabilities. Individual persons do not receive funding, nor do projects outside the Diocese of Essen.
