About the funder

The Karl H. Ditze Foundation is a legally recognized foundation under civil law based in the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. Founded in 1979 by the Hamburg entrepreneur and art collector Karl H. Ditze, the foundation pursues charitable objectives in the fields of art, culture, applied sciences, and social engagement. It particularly supports the four Hamburg universities HAW Hamburg, HFBK Hamburg, TU Hamburg, and the University of Hamburg through research projects, equipment, talent scholarships, and international cooperations. Furthermore, it supports charitable initiatives for children, youth, and people with disabilities in Hamburg as well as international aid projects. Up to the fiscal year 2024/2025, the foundation has provided a total of approximately €14.38 million in funding (as of 30.06.2025).

Mission & Vision

The Karl H. Ditze Foundation is committed to promoting education, research, art, and social responsibility. Our goal is to support innovative and application-oriented projects at Hamburg universities, to foster talented students, and to provide assistance for self-help to disadvantaged and disabled individuals. In doing so, we combine entrepreneurial foresight with social responsibility and support projects that create sustainable benefits for the community.

Target groups

The target group of the Karl H. Ditze Foundation includes four Hamburg universities and their students in the fields of engineering, arts and humanities, socially disadvantaged children and youth, as well as people with disabilities in Hamburg and the surrounding area. Additionally, non-profit organizations and initiatives that provide charitable, educational, or therapeutic services, as well as international aid projects, are supported.
