About the funder

KfW Capital GmbH & Co. KG is a 100% subsidiary of the KfW Banking Group and is one of the largest venture capital fund investors in Germany and Europe. Using funds from the ERP Special Fund as well as the Federal Government’s Future Fund, KfW Capital invests in German and European venture capital and venture debt funds. The goal is to indirectly strengthen the supply of risk and growth capital for technology-oriented companies and to promote Germany as an innovation hub. KfW Capital places great emphasis on sustainability: it applies an in-house exclusion list and ESG guidelines and always invests on equal terms with other capital providers. Beyond pure capital participation, KfW Capital further develops the VC ecosystem content-wise, offers ESG training for fund managers, and since 2022 has been recognizing outstanding achievements in the areas of diversity and impact with the KfW Capital Awards.

Mission & Vision

The mission of KfW Capital is to sustainably strengthen the provision of venture and growth capital for innovative technology companies in Germany and Europe as a responsible venture capital fund investor. Through targeted investments in VC and venture debt funds, the strict application of its own sustainability and exclusion criteria, as well as participation in the substantive development of the VC ecosystem, KfW Capital aims to improve access to growth capital, invest responsibly, and promote diversity and positive societal impact.

Target groups

KfW Capital primarily targets German and European venture capital and venture debt funds as well as their fund managers who invest in technology-oriented growth companies. Fund companies committed to comprehensively implementing sustainability and ESG criteria and strengthening Germany’s innovation capacity through their investments are supported. Indirectly, technology-oriented start-ups and young companies benefit by gaining improved access to growth capital.
