About the funder

The State Office for Health and Social Affairs Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (LAGuS) sees itself as a central competence center for health and occupational safety as well as for essential social tasks of the state. With its headquarters in Rostock (Blücherstraße 1) and branch offices in Greifswald, Neubrandenburg, Neustrelitz, Schwerin, and Stralsund, LAGuS serves nearly all citizens of the federal state as well as millions of visitors (e.g., through bathing water analyses). The authority is divided into four departments – Funding Affairs, Health, Social Affairs, and Occupational Safety – as well as a central department. The first director is Dr. Heiko Will.

Mission & Vision

The LAGuS is committed to the protection and promotion of public health, workplace safety, and the fulfillment of key social responsibilities. As a professional interface between the state government, municipal authorities, and the public, it ensures efficient monitoring, advisory services, and support within its areas of responsibility, thereby contributing to the quality of life in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Target groups

The services of LAGuS are aimed at citizens with concerns regarding health and infection protection as well as social law, at public and private employers who must comply with occupational safety regulations, at social institutions and organizations in the state, at municipal health offices and ministries as cooperation partners, as well as at tourism providers and guests (e.g., through drinking and bathing water examinations).
