About the funder

The Margarethe-von-Witzleben Community Foundation is a private law foundation established in 2000 and named after the visionary Margarethe von Witzleben, who became hard of hearing. Its purpose is the nationwide promotion of initiatives, institutions, and projects for the benefit of hard of hearing and deafened people. Under the foundation's umbrella, both legally dependent foundations and funds can be established, as well as its own projects financed. The foundation works closely with the German Hard of Hearing Association (DSB) and its regional associations.

Mission & Vision

Margarethe von Witzleben advocated for help towards self-help. Her guiding principle states that material assistance alone is not sufficient; rather, people with hearing impairments should be empowered to take responsibility for themselves and others. Through collective commitment, the foundation aims to strengthen the self-confidence of those affected and sustainably contribute to their participation in education, employment, and society.

Target groups

The funding activities are directed towards the German Hard of Hearing Association (DSB) and its legally independent subdivisions, other non-profit associations and organizations that support and represent the interests of hearing-impaired individuals, nationwide project groups and institutions that improve the living conditions of the hard of hearing, private individuals (scientists, pupils, students) who are committed to the foundation's objectives, as well as hearing-impaired persons seeking support in education, school attendance, or social participation.
