Münchner Künstlerhaus-Stiftung

Private foundation

About the funder

The Münchner Künstlerhaus-Stiftung was founded in December 2001 to permanently preserve the listed Künstlerhaus at Lenbachplatz 8 and to enliven it with a sophisticated cultural program. As a private foundation without government subsidies, it assumes all monument preservation responsibilities and guarantees the continued existence of the house as a meeting place for artists and the public. The foundation finances its work through leases (west wing), room rentals for cultural, business, and private events, as well as through private donations and sponsors.

Mission & Vision

In the spirit of the founding fathers Franz von Lenbach, Gabriel von Seidl, Lorenz Gedon, and Ferdinand von Miller, the Münchner Künstlerhaus-Stiftung aims not only to preserve the historic building but also to enable artists of various genres to access a broad audience. Under the motto "Nobis et Amicis," the Künstlerhaus is to remain a vibrant meeting place for art, culture, and society, offering future generations space for creative exchange.

Target groups

The foundation is aimed at artists from all disciplines – from visual arts to music, literature, and theater, as well as emerging talents in lithography or sculpture. It supports young talents with scholarships and residency opportunities in its in-house lithography workshop, promotes portrait concerts by soloists, and cooperates with educational institutions. At the same time, the cultural program addresses art-interested citizens and an international audience seeking exceptional events in a historic setting.
