About the funder

The NORD/LB Cultural Foundation is a legal foundation based in Hanover. It was established on November 29, 2012, by Norddeutsche Landesbank; the initial capital originated from the proceeds of the sale of the sculpture "Tulips" by Jeff Koons. The foundation supports art and culture both ideologically and financially at locations where NORD/LB operates. It funds projects in visual arts (contemporary art from 1945 onwards), music, performing arts, and literature. In addition to project funding, the foundation also organizes its own cultural events and awards scholarships and cultural prizes.

Mission & Vision

The NORD/LB Kulturstiftung attaches special importance to art and culture in areas that may not be the focus of conventional cultural institutions. Innovation and change to address societal adaptation processes are central themes of tomorrow’s cultural work. Innovative and unconventional projects with targeted impact across as broad a spectrum of society as possible are supported.

Target groups

Non-profit organizations, institutions, and projects in the fields of visual arts, music, performing arts, and literature are supported. The geographical focus is on the NORD/LB business areas: Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, and Bremen. Applicants must be non-profit and contribute at least 50% own or third-party funds. Projects that actively involve young people are especially welcome.
