About the funder
The Schwarz Foundation gGmbH is a private, non-profit institution based in Munich and Athens. It was founded by Dr. Kurt Schwarz and Chiona Xanthopoulou-Schwarz with the aim of promoting intellectual and practical exchange between cultures and countries. The foundation initiates and supports exhibitions, residencies and scholarships, concerts as well as music festivals, and backs projects fostering international understanding. With a special focus on the Mediterranean region and its European external borders, it contributes to the discourse on social realignment, sustainable development, and ecological issues.

Mission & Vision
Aware of existential changes in Europe, the Schwarz Foundation aims to contribute to the discourse on a future-oriented realignment. With a particular focus on the southeastern Mediterranean region, it initiates and supports artistic, cultural, and social projects that promote understanding of history, traditions, and ecological issues, as well as enable new forms of social coexistence.

The funding programs of the Schwarz Foundation are aimed at institutions, organizations, and individuals – in particular artists, curators, cultural practitioners, and educational institutions – who advance new forms of social exchange and sustainable, culturally diverse development with innovative ideas and perspectives.
